Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

RecipeWorks ("we", "us", or "our") operates the RecipeWorks web application and iOS app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Service.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

  • Email address — used for passwordless sign-in via magic link or a 6-digit code. We do not share your email with third parties for marketing.
  • Phone number — optional. If you add a phone number, we can send a one-time SMS login code.
  • Display name — optional, shown on your profile and recipes you choose to share publicly.
  • Recipes and content — recipes, notes, photos of recipe cards or cookbooks, screenshots, and other content you create or import. Private recipes are only visible to you.
  • Voice input — if you use voice features, the audio is sent to a transcription provider so we can turn it into text. We do not use voice recordings to identify you.

Information collected automatically:

  • Session cookie — a secure, HTTP-only cookie is used to keep you signed in. It contains no personal data beyond a session identifier.
  • Usage data — standard server logs (IP address, request timestamps, pages visited) used for debugging and improving the Service. Logs are not sold or shared.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To authenticate you and maintain your session
  • To store and display your recipes
  • To send magic-link and one-time-code sign-in messages (transactional only — no marketing emails or SMS)
  • To import recipes from photos, shared web pages, and URLs you provide
  • To power AI recipe help, including generating and editing recipes from your prompts and content
  • To improve and debug the Service

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to train AI models without your explicit consent.

4. AI Features

RecipeWorks uses third-party AI services to power recipe import, generation, image understanding, and the AI sous-chef chat:

  • Google Gemini — recipe content and your prompts may be sent to Google to generate responses and images. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • OpenAI Whisper — voice recordings are sent to OpenAI only to transcribe speech to text. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

5. iOS App

The iOS app is a native shell around the RecipeWorks service. It may request the following device permissions, only when you use the related feature:

  • Face ID / Touch ID — optional lock on app launch. Biometric data stays on your device and is never sent to RecipeWorks servers.
  • Camera — to photograph handwritten recipe cards, cookbook pages, or other recipe sources.
  • Photo library — to import recipe images and set a profile avatar.
  • Microphone — for voice input when creating recipes or chatting with the AI assistant.

The iOS Share Extension can receive a web page or URL you share from Safari so RecipeWorks can import that recipe. Shared page content is stored briefly on device, then sent to your account to create the recipe.

6. Public Content

Recipes you choose to make public are visible to all visitors, including unauthenticated users. Your display name is shown alongside public recipes. You can make a recipe private at any time from the recipe settings.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account and recipe data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and associated data from Settings in the app, or by emailing us at the address below. We will process email deletion requests within 30 days.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including HTTPS encryption, HTTP-only session cookies, and secure database hosting. Face ID and Touch ID, when enabled, are processed by iOS on your device. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

RecipeWorks is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us for prompt removal.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
